I am thinking about buying a wine rack from their website, but I’ve never heard of them and wonder if their merchandise is of high quality, or just looks nice. Since it will be holding wine bottles and stemware, construction is pretty important. If you’ve bought anything from them before, what did you think?

rests are 90 degrees apart, and the right surface makes an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the ground. Each surface exerts a force on the bottle that is perpendicular to the surface. What is the magnitude of each of these forces?

† I’m Not Tired † asked:

My husband gave me a bottle of Riesling about a year ago. We don’t drink often and were saving it for a special occasion…I had it stored in my wine rack in the kitchen, which of course is at a comfortable temperature year-round. Even though it was in plain sight over the past year, I forgot about it and am wondering if it is still okay to drink.

Thanks.
I know the aged wine is better, but I thought that was when it was stored in a proper wine cellar.

Harold

Is it just for style and convenience? Or is there a bigger reason for them?

David R. Markoff asked:

Metal wine racks are an ideal selection when you are looking for a safe place to store your wine bottles. The most important thing is that you properly store your wine in the right environment regardless of the type of wine rack that you purchase. Keeping this in mind will help you to find the right spot in your home, as well as the right size to fit your entire wine collection. You should read more about properly storing your wine so that you can find the best place without compromising the taste of your wine.

Once you determine the optimal place in your home that will be consistently cool, dark and slightly humid then you can begin searching for the right metal wine rack. The main advantage of label out metal wine racks is that you will easily be able to see the label of the wine without removing it from the rack. This is an important advantage because for many wines you need to leave the wine laying on it’s side until the moment you are ready to open it. Another great advantage is that you can find many metal wine racks to choose from that will have the ability to fit in just about any size area.

The cost for metal wine racks will vary greatly. You can easily find a small specialty rack for less than $30 dollars, but a larger more decorative one is going to cost you much more. The price will also vary as the quality of the metal varies.

You will find many different styles of metals to choose from such as label out, pigeon holes and scrolled decorative.  Finishes may be available in black, wrought iron or brushed platinum, which has the look of chrome or Stainless Steel.   Black & brushed platinum will offer you a modern or contemporary look. Wrought iron will offer a more traditional look. You can search online for the various styles.   And I can guarantee that you will be amazed at the prices, styles and designs that you will find.   Buying anything online will put you in front of some of the best deals.

concerto asked:

I could be wrong here, but I thought the idea behind a wine rack was to store the wine bottles tilted so that the cork does not dry out.

But if I only buy wine that has a plastic cork (it just so happens my favorite wine uses them) do I need to still store the bottles on a tilt?

I was thinking that the benefit of the plastic corks is that they don’t dry out like real cork corks.

Please help me wine connoisseurs!

Barbara Tobiasz asked:

Many experts seem to agree that wine dates back to 6000BC. For centuries European homes have chosen wine as their favorite dinner beverage. In America, it has now become their staple drink as well. Few environments are as potentially destructive to wines as the home. Too much humidity causes mold and damages labels. The current issue is where can we store our wine safely and display our favorite vintages. The wall mounted wood wine rack has come to consumers rescue.

It is a given that anyone interested in having a growing wine collection would not want to do so behind a kitchen cabinet. Whether you are a wine hobbyist or a wine aficionado, you wish to protect valuable vintages and wish to place a cherished wine collection on exhibit for others to view.

The wall mounted wood wine rack helps you taste the wine with your eyes. It is a gorgeous piece of furniture that will enhance any wall in any room. It is an excellent alternative to the expense of investing in the construction of a wine cellar. It will also save you space as well as money. The savings from the wine rack will allow you to have more money to expand on your wine collection. These wall mounted wood wine racks offer the consumer elegance, security, and advanced engineering that allows you to age your wine with confidence. This wall accessory is well worth the initial investment.

There are numerous styles, sizes and types of wood wine racks available. You can find wood wall wine racks that store from five bottles up to hundreds of bottles at full capacity. When making your selection, you will have many different types of woods to choose from. Some popular wood types are mahogany, maple, cedar, fir, birch, pine, redwood, oak and cherry.

You should choose a wood that fits in well with the rest of your decorating scheme. Wood offers beauty, warmth and function. It is strong enough to hold a lot of weight, yet it is easy to maintain or repair. Wood is also one of the best materials to absorb vibration. You are able to paint wood in a rainbow of colors or apply any finish or stain to match your existing decor.

This wall accessory should be hung in a cool dark slightly humid area. It is best to keep a consistent temperature between fifty and fifty nine degrees Fahrenheit. Never hang the rack in direct sunlight or heat. This would cause your wine to cook and spoil. Corked wine bottles should be stored horizontally to keep their corks moist and prevent shrinkage, which would allow air to penetrate the bottles and destroy the wine. Wax sealed bottles require vertical storage or their content will leak away.

As an additional touch, you can purchase racks with added features built in. Some of these features will automatically make this wall accessory the focal point of your room. It can be as simple as having lighted mirrors that shine on your collection.

Adding glass shelving always brings classic style. Tray storage is a great devise and is a covenant way to help serve your company. Adjustable shelves give you versatility to move your collection around for proper fit. Levelers ensure that your bottles are lying appropriately to keep the cork moist and holding the integrity of your investment.

There are some wall racks that have slide through slats that hold the bottom of the glass upside down.

You can purchase wall mounted wine racks that are already assembled and ready to hang. Just make certain when you mount the rack to the wall that it is tightly secured and it has good balance. The last thing you would want is your wine bottles to slip or fall to the ground.

There are also companies that will custom make a wood wine rack to your design and specifications. If you want that custom made look without the expense there are kits available that come with wood pre-drilled and all the tools needed for easy installation.

For most home users, when it comes to the investment in these wall mounted wood wine racks, you can expect to spend anywhere between twenty five and five hundred dollars. This all depends on the style, size, wood, and construction of the piece. Rest assured you have so many choices there is definitely a rack to fit anyone’s budget.

Enjoying your glass of wine is all about relaxing, celebrating, friendship and intimacy. So reach out for that special bottle from your wine rack and enjoy!

David R. Markoff asked:

Finding a place to store your bottles of wine without subjecting it to conditions such as heat, light and humidity is often difficult when you have limited amounts of space in your home. Unfortunately we are all not lucky enough to have an abundant amount of space in our house, and often need to create ingenious ways to store many things. This includes wine racks. There are various styles of limited space wine racks that can be used for tight spaces, and a wall wine rack is just one of them.

Wall wine racks can vary from holding a couple of bottles of wine to more extensive triple deep units holding multiple bottles.  A wall mounted wine rack is perfect for under a kitchen cabinet or on the wall in the kitchen or dining area. But I wouldn’t suggest putting it in your kitchen because it’s not the best spot for wines. Wines need to be kept cool; so a basement, cold storage room or proper wine cellar are the best spots.  A kitchen can have drastic temperature changes due to cooking, so you may just want to keep a small wine rack in the kitchen and consume those bottles frequently to change over your selection.

When you install your wall mounted wine racks you should attach it to wall studs to be the most secure.  You can purchase a stud finding tool at Lowes, Home Depot or local hardware store.  You can find a how to video online to learn how to properly secure the rack to the wall.   There are also special fastening screws available to secure wall mounted racks when no stud is available but be sure to understand the weight load of these products.

The only real downfall to decorative wall wine racks is that it’s not for an extended amount of time as they are generally not hung in a climate controlled environment. Wall wine racks are just for bottles that you will drink sooner rather than later.   However, in the right environment you can also connect a few wall wine racks together for a larger collection, or add as you go for a growing collection.

Installing the wall wine rack in an area of your home that is out of direct sunlight, in a cool area of your home, and slightly humid would be the best thing to do. This could be in a closet in your home; this area of your home may offer a consistent environment and a dark area for your wine. Light, heat and humidity will all spoil your wine. A basement, or under a staircase are also good places to put your wall wine rack.
